Review: The Commodore Hotel – Linden, Tennessee

Small town charm and history are what come to mind when I think back to my hotel stay at The Commodore Hotel in Linden, Tennessee.

Located 1 1/2 hours west of Nashville and a short drive off of Interstate 40, the Commodore Hotel was built in 1939, then rescued and completely restored in 2007 by the current owners – Michael and Kathy Dumont.

From refinished, wood flooring to exposed bricks in the rooms to period-style tiles and repurposing bathrooms, the hotel has been revitalized and its a lovely getaway stop for those traveling the Natchez Trace Parkway or just making their way through Tennessee.

Sleep Well, No Matter What Type Room You Choose

When you book your stay at the Commodore Hotel, choose from a variety of different rooms – and not just concerning how many beds or the view. Almost every room at the property has a story to tell. My room overlooked Main Street and included a separate living space with a roomy couch and television. Other rooms featured two beds and a desk with a view of the courthouse just down the street.

The Commodore Hotel and the Dumonts also own an adjacent property just a storefront or two down the street from the hotel that they’ve named Miss Berdie’s Boarding House. Named after Miss Berdie that used to own the building with shops along the street and apartments for rent upstairs, this property has eight rooms available for booking along with a small apartment. Everyone checks in at The Commodore Hotel and can enjoy the restaurant and Speakeasy Lounge.

Don’t Miss The Commodore Music Cafe & the Speakeasy Lounge

Located adjacent to the lobby, do not miss having a meal in The Commodore Music Cafe and then make your way across the hall to the Speakeasy Lounge. Serving southern comfort food and a variety of local ingredients, I had the opportunity to try a few dishes and I’m not exaggerating when I tell you that I’m still thinking about them.

From fresh, fried green tomatoes and crispy onion rings to delicious fried cauliflower bites tossed in a honey-sriracha sauce with homemade ranch (!!!) to the Southern bourbon & cherry salmon dish and Chef Hayley’s made-from-scratch cheesecake — the menu was creative and fantastic!

And as an added bonus – live music! During my visit, the incredible Andi Jane was there to play the piano and sing for us. It was a wonderful night of both music and food! Check out Spotify for Andi Jane’s new album coming out soon – “The Ground is Changing”.

What I particularly enjoyed about our night that even though I was a “visitor”, I felt right at home. This cozy space was so welcoming and laidback that I truly felt a part of their community. And isn’t that what we all want when we travel?

Have Fun in Linden, TN

With the Buffalo River nearby, the folks at The Commodore Hotel have kayaks available for rent and can even arrange a local guide to take you along the waterways. And if that interests you, make sure to ask about their guided, nighttime kayaking excursions that include 5 mile and 10 mile adventures.

The Natchez Trace Parkway is also close to The Commodore Hotel. Cyclists and motorcycle groups are always welcome at the property. And from my understanding – many cycling groups make The Commodore a stop every year during their rides!
