When people ask me where my favorite place to eat is in all of Walt Disney World, it’s a no-brainer. My top pick is the Flying Fish Cafe, a signature dining restaurant at Disney’s Boardwalk Inn. And on a recent visit, thanks to my nice mother-in-law, my husband and I were able to sneak away for a quiet date night… and it did not disappoint!

When making our dining reservation online a few weeks in advanced (which I highly recommend), I noticed there was a chef’s table allowing diners to see all the action of the kitchen.
I love watching chefs in the kitchen, so when we arrived at the restaurant, I asked to be seated at the chef’s table and they were happy to accommodate us.
Insider Tip: Our server later told us that they will only seat you there if you ask at the hostess stand or you are part of the Chef’s Tasting Wine Dinner. (Note to self: Sign up for that next time!)

For an appetizer, we shared the signature Flying Fish Cafe crab cake (pictured above), it was beautifully plated and filled with the perfect balance of breading and crab meat. It was a great portion size for sharing. When I mentioned to our server that I was unsure of which Chardonnay to order from the menu, he gladly brought me a Chardonnay flight – a sampling of three wines and a great card detailing each of his selections. (How’s that for great service?!)

We chose to split the Fresh Mozzarella di Bufala salad featuring yellow beefsteak, heirloom and grape tomatoes with a balsamic dressing. We loved the freshness of the dish and our server told us the chef prides himself on the great quality of their mozzarella.

It was an extremely hard decision deciding on our main courses. The Flying Fish signature entree is a Potato Wrapped Red Snapper, but in the end my weakness for scallops won.
I was also excited to try the leek, fontina and truffle-laced macaroni & cheese as I had heard from others that it was a “must try”. It was the perfect pairing and I savored every single bit of that macaroni and cheese. Absolutely divine.

My husband opted for the char-crusted Angus New York Strip Steak paired with Brussel sprouts and Fingerling potatoes.
It was perfectly cooked and seasoned well…. or at least that’s what I was told, he didn’t even save me a bite! And since we were at the chef’s table, we were able to watch his steak prepared right in front of us at the grill.

Sitting at the chef’s table really made our dinner an “experience”, not just a meal. With entrees ranging in prices between $26- $63, the Flying Fish Cafe is a considered a Signature Dining Restaurant at Walt Disney World.
If you’re celebrating a special occasion or just a once-in-blue moon date night like myself, the Flying Fish Cafe provides a relaxing atmosphere paired with fantastic dishes.
